Radiant Heating—Warm Your Home From the Ground Up
When we think of heating systems, furnaces and boilers usually come to mind first. But there’s another, more efficient method than either of them: radiant heating. Below, the Bryant® experts here at River City Heating & Air Conditioning explain how these systems work—and how they can benefit you. Call us today to discuss installation.
What Is Radiant Heat?
Radiant heating, also known as hydronic or in-floor heating, literally heats your home from the ground up. Using tubes installed under your floors, your boiler sends hot water throughout your house. That heat then rises through the ground, providing nice, even warmth everywhere. It’s a highly convenient and efficient heating system that will keep you comfortable no matter how cold the winter gets—more on that below.
How a Radiant Heating System Benefits You
High Energy Efficiency
Furnaces are forced-air systems, meaning they heat air and send it via ductwork to control the temperature in the house. Radiant systems use water instead, which conducts heat much more efficiently than air and uses less energy to keep you comfortable. It also delivers that heat more efficiently—you don’t have to worry about losing warmth or energy through cracks or leaks in your ductwork.
Better Indoor Air Quality
Because radiant heat systems use hot water to distribute warmth instead of air, they won’t circulate airborne pollutants such as dust or dirt. You can simply enjoy a heated home while breathing safe and healthy air.
Even Heating
We all have that one room or area in the house that just seems colder than everywhere else. With radiant heating, that problem can be a thing of the past. Steam from a hydronic system rises evenly, so no matter where you are in the house, you’ll feel nice and comfortable.
Quiet Heating
Air makes a lot of noise as it runs through your ductwork. Water, on the other hand, is much quieter. The only way you’ll know it’s running is how warm you’ll feel.
Heated Floors
Who wouldn’t want to wake up in the middle of winter and feel the warmth under their feet? You won’t have to wear socks or slippers around the house or put up with cold bathroom tiles in the morning.
